History of the

St. Marys, ON Fire Sirens

In 1969 the St. Marys fire dept purchased 2 Federal Sign & Signal "Canadian" Model 2 fire sirens—one for the fire hall (former welding shop turned firehall) and one for downtown. The fire sirens were tested when the FD requested a test on Saturday mornings or Wednesday evenings (training night). In the spring of 2020, the Firehall underwent renovation and the Firehall siren was removed but not found again (hence why it wasn't reinstalled. The downtown Model 2 siren was controlled by Bell lines from the Fire Hall to the Town Hall and during the Fire Hall renovation they were removed so activation of the Town Hall siren wasn't able to be done anymore. In 2021 an attempt was made to try and get the downtown siren working again for calls but failed. In 2023 the Town of St. Marys and the St. Marys Fire Dept purchased a Whelen Engineering fire siren, Whelen Engineering WPS-2907 (7-cell) electronic siren to replace the 2 old fire sirens from 1969.
